Since I've trained my Phoenix to Dire that is the status I hold most vallue to in regards to pet because it's a lot of (mindnumbing) work.
And in reverse, once you train a Moa it's name changes back into Strider. Not sure about Elder, but the bird I capped as a "Moa" in ascalon is now a "Dire Strider"

PS: My Dire Strider could pwn your Dire Phoenix.

You know this sort of rmeinds me about that time I was in HA and we were in one of those 'get your hero to the platform and make sure he doesnt get kicked off maps'. We were against a b-spike, but a few mins after the fight started an enemy crab came up to me. I was like, WTF? B-spike with a crab?!?!

I know that's a bit off topic but crabs are funny.

lol the crab b-spike thing made me laugh :P

ye my ranger got widow from uw, long long long time ago i joined a 4 man trapping group, talked with em and we decided to get some widows, 3 out of 4 needed a spider, well we made all 3 runs, took us like 6 hours coz we also visited some smites, and ye that was some nice time :P and as far as i remember i got all 3 ecto drops ^^

so ye, paying for a spider is kinda lame in my eyes :/, its a rare pet just go and do something for it if u really want one, my opinion....

meh...i think most ranger pets are useless in terms of just haivng one BUTIf your a beast master...they can do some damage, plus no one expects a ranger to use a pet unless you make it obvious.I use a necro staff for energy so they think im a touch...then my lil white tiger(Bob Marley)Mauls them to death

anything other then a bear, they may look good to some people, but they have a slower attack speed then the rest[all the other pets are the same in stats, excluding damage type]

stalkers

@ Plushie penguin~ about bears, I took a character through pre recently just to get a good no-req longbow for pulling. Every time I went into Foibles Fair, there were people there asking for help to charm a bear or people offering to help with charming a bear. I always let them know in all chat, "bears have the slowest attack rate of all the pets, but do the same dmg." I was ignored.

This has been going on every since I started playing GW. Why do people in pre insist on charming bears?

To show off. It's the hardest pre-searing pet to charm.

Edit: Oh and my elder warthog kills you all.

Unfortunatly, factions pets stay the same size (as when u first got them) no matter what, and the crane is a factions pet. I wanted to see too, and was a bit dissapointed when it got to lvl 20 and was still the same size as a lvl 3 one... You might also want to consider that when you get your pet.

Other wise, its really just about which one you think looks better, because they all have teh same stats, exept the bear that attacks slower and the few that do peircing damage.

Bears are unconditionally the worst pets. Slow attack speed for stupid animations.

Black Widows and Dune Lizards are second worst, their piercing damage means that they are going to do less against bonelace and shields up than any other pet.

The rest are all on an even footing, although I don't know of any research into the Factions pets.

The Black Moa is considered Elder for stats purposes, which is the same as saying it's unevolved. It gains no bonus or penalty to it's health and damage. Since it is already level 20 it cannot be trained out of this. It's purpose is to just look cool.

interestingly i believe the warthog is the only pet who does blunt damage.
and "brutal mauling" does seem to do more damage than a standard attack, but bears are slow and kind of dumb (dont rush in as readily as the others)
crabs are good because they are sneaky with the low profile.

crabs are good because they are crabs, and you can name them "I pinch" or "Mr Snips".

If you are just out to cap the Moa, it's pretty easy to run to it solo and stick on whirling defence or something while you charm it.

Wrong on both counts, Warthogs are slashing, Brutal Mauling does nothing extra except slows the attack down.

Crabs!! (aka reef lurkers) are the most adorable! I have a red one, my guildee has the blue (so we dont get them confused in a battle).....and I wish they would have gotten bigger, my wolf was the biggest pet I had seen in quite sometime......and always got the comment "thats a mightly big wolf you have"....
